Editor & Faculty Advisor

Sarah Domet is the Editor and faculty advisor of The Broken Plate . She is the author of two books: a novel, The Guineveres (Flatiron Books/Macmillan 2016), and an instructional craft book, 90 Days to Your Novel (Writers Digest Books/Penguin Random House 2010). Her short work and essays have recently been published in Lit Hub, The South Carolina Review, Burrow Press Review , and other places. You can find her on Twitter @sarahdomet.

Managing Editor

Tauri Hagemann is a senior at Ball State with a creative writing concentration and minors in literature and Spanish. She is also a member of the Honors College. This is her 2nd year withThe Broken Plate, and she has worked on and been published in Ball State'sDigital Literature Review. Tauri is also the president of the Writer's Community club through the university. She hopes to use her experience withThe Broken Plate to move forward into a career in the book publishing industry. Assistant Managing Editor

Kylie Whipple  is a Creative Writing major with an American Sign Language Minor  at Ball State University. She is  the Assistant Managing Editor at The Broken Plate for 2022. It is her  dream to expand the literary canon to include diverse stories and identities. She hopes  to not only do this through her writing , but also through her work at The Broken Plate . She want s  to set up a platform for all voices to be recognized. After her  time at Ball State University, she  hope s  to pursue a certificate  in American Sign Language Interpreting and a Master's in Library Science while she continue s  to write and publish her  novels. In her  free time, you can find her  reading fantasy novels or listening to emo rock music.

Associate Fiction Editor

Emily Grant is a Creative Writing minor, and Zoology major at BSU. In the future, she hopes to utilize her love of storytelling and science to educate and impassion others about the natural world. This year as Associate Fiction Editor she looks forward to sharing unique stories that reflectThe Broken Plate's inclusive community. In her free time, she can probably be found staring at birds, filling her head with strange stories or starting yet another craft project.

Assistant Fiction Editors

Sonia Hart is a senior at Ball State with a major in Anthropology and minors in Literature, Creative Writing, and Spanish. She is the Assistant Fiction Editor atThe Broken Platefor 2022. After getting her undergraduate degree, she hopes to go to graduate school and use her cultural knowledge in anthropology to better the world around her; mostly through her writing. She enjoys writing, reading, and listening to all types of music in her free time. She hopes to one day be able to publish her own novels and watch the people around her fall in love with reading just as much as her. You can find her on Twitter @SoniaReads.

Hailey Beaty is a senior Creative Writing major at Ball State with a minor in Women and Gender Studies.  She is an Associate Fiction Editor at the Broken Plate.  In her free time she likes to watch movies, read, listen to music, and drink too much coffee.

Associate Poetry Editor

Xavier Searle (they/them) is a writer from Indiana. They are the Associate Poetry Editor for the 2022 issue ofThe BrokenPlate. They are a lifelong lover of words, spending their time with poetry, fantasy, and horror as much as possible. The theme from House (1977) is probably stuck in their head.

Assistant Poetry Editor

Katlynn Slann (She/Her) is a junior at Ball State getting her Bachelor's in English with a concentration in Creative Writing, as well as minors in Anthropology, French, Classical Culture, and Women's and Gender Studies. She is the Assistant Poetry Editor atThe Broken Plate. In her free time, she enjoys pumpkin spice lattes, knitting, and re-watchingCharmed (1998).

Associate Nonfiction Editor

Mia Basso is a senior Creative Writing major at Ball State University and the Associate Creative Nonfiction Editor atThe Broken Plate. She is an aspiring children's writer who adores essays, sci-fi, adventure novels and janky 90s CGI.

Assistant Nonfiction Editors

Ayah Eid is a Ball State senior creative writing and journalism news major. Along with being on The Broken Plate, she writes for the Ball State Daily News and has written for Ball Bearings Magazine. After completing her undergrad, she hopes to pursue a dual masters degree in emerging media design and development and creative writing. She wants to use her love for writing to help raise awareness about important issues and topics.

Grace Wagner is a senior at Ball State University, majoring in English with a concentration in creative writing. She is currently working with the Broken Plate as one of the Creative Non Fiction editors. After she graduates, she would like to pursue a career in publishing. In previous years she also was involved with the production of Grit, Grace, and Gratitude, a memoir published through the university. She is a Sylvia Plath super fan and also a writer, poet, and creator. You can find her poetry on Instagram under the handle @theofficialgew.

Associate Design Editor

Andrea Mohler is a senior at Ball State University with a Creative Writing concentration and a minor in German. She is the Associate Design Editor of The Broken Plate 2022 and has worked previously on Ball State's Digital Literature Review and served as a co-author and illustrator of the memoir collection Grit, Grace, and Gratitude, also published through the university. In her free time, she enjoys art, music, film, reading and drinking copious amounts of coffee.

My name is KJ, and I am a Creative Writing and Literature student in my senior year here at Ball State University. I am the Assistant Design Editor this year and I am very excited to work with this team. I really enjoy creating art and expressing myself through the work I produce. When I graduate I hope to pursue a career in Tattoo Artistry outside of the midwest.
